Huntington's Disease

ILG currently have one specialist home, dedicated to supporting people with Huntington’s Disease.

Millstream House:

Millstream House is a purpose built residential home situated near Rochester, Kent. It offers generously proportioned accommodation, including several large lounges, and an en-suite bathroom for each bedroom. It has good links with the Huntington's Society and other local resources, to ensure the best care is provided to everybody we support.

Living at Millstream House:

Millstream has two vehicles – a mini bus which can take two wheelchairs and a people carrier. This is so residents can access the community, attend appointments and visit families. Family members are also encouraged to visit at any time and if they require accommodation for an overnight visit, ILG will place them in Bed & Breakfast.

Meals are prepared by a team of kitchen staff who take advice from the speech and language team. All meals are prepared to the highest standard and each residents requirements and wishes are accommodated.

Millstream has a team of domestics, maintenance and a laundry person; this ensures the environment is of the highest standard.

The home has its own activities co-ordinator who works alongside each individual to ensure they can pursue activities of their choice.

Specialist Support:

The aim of Millstream is to empower people to make their own life choices and to remain independent for as long as possible. All staff receive individualised training to ensure they are fully competent in all aspects of care.

Millstream is renowned for it quality palliative care, having established strong connections with the Wisdom Hospice and Primary Care Trust. The staff are working on the Liverpool Care pathways scheme to ensure that residents receive the highest quality of care. Millstream also works closely with their local GP and the team of district nurses who visit on a weekly basis.

Staff refer residents to the speech and language team, who come in and assess/review service users with speech and swallowing problems as and when required.
