Behavioural Support & Response Team
The ‘Behaviour Support and Response Team’ (BSR) is an established service within ILG and provides all homes within the company, with a resource to enable service users to reach their potential and enhance their quality of life. We provide a person centred approach and focus on positive, proactive and non-aversive methods in dealing with behaviour/s which challenge the service/s.
The aim of the BSR is to supplement and enhance the ability of services within ILG to address the needs of service users.
Our objectives are:
To reduce the frequency, severity and intensity of behavioural challenges.
- To increase knowledge, skills and confidence for staff teams.
- To improve quality of life for the people we support, in particular to increase participation in the community.
- Promote staff consistency in meeting individual’s needs.
- To enhance the competencies of ILG staff.
- To provide a quality service that is unique and raises the profile of ILG as a care provider.
- To work closely with CLDT’s and other professionals in providing care and support input for all service users in ILG.
The team has a wealth of experience of both managing and working in a range of support services within health and social care settings.
Each member has an in-depth knowledge and experience of working within a positive behavioural framework and skilled in non-aversive practice.
BSR Team:
The BSR manager is Hugh Wright who has worked in the health and social care sector for thirty years and is a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN). Hugh has specialised in working with individuals who challenge the service in a forensic setting, both within the NHS and Independent Sector and has experience in service development, commissioning and clinical governance.
Bob Gleeson acts as deputy manager for the BSR team and has worked in a variety of social care settings since 2003. Bob has been a SCIP instructor since 2007 and a principle instructor since 2008. He has a step daughter who has a learning disability which gives him great insight as to what care and support is required for the people who use our services.
Both Hugh and Bob cover all geographical areas of ILG and can be contacted at any time.
Cheryll Champion works as a behavioural assistant and covers the Sussex and Kent areas of ILG. Cheryll has worked in social care for the past 20 years, primarily in learning difficulty and behaviour support units. She has also taught and been an NVQ assessor. She has worked in both residential and educational settings, specialising in behavioural issues and social/sex education for adults with learning difficulties.
Kirsten Pakes works as a behavioural assistant and covers the Hampshire area.
Kirsten has worked for ILG for over two years, initially as a support worker and latterly as a senior support worker. She has a degree in psychology and experience in planning behavioural plans for people with learning disabilities who challenge the service.
Anyone can make a referral to the team if they are concerned about a particular individual/s and the BSR will carry out an assessment within an agreed timeframe.
